THE COLLECTOR’S READ
KNOW THE PAIR.
KNOW YOUR ENTRY.
The Air Jordan 1 High Royal returns in 2026 with the black and blue leather blocking that made the original pair recognizable long before resale prices became part of every release conversation. Royal dates to the first Air Jordan 1 lineup in 1985, but the useful comparison here is more recent: the last conventional leather High OG release arrived in 2017, while the 2023 Reimagined edition took the colorway into suede. This return puts the focus back on leather, with blue across the toe, Swoosh and heel, a white midsole and a blue outsole. Reports identify the standard High OG shape rather than the separate 85 cut, an important distinction if you collect the different versions. If you passed on the suede pair because you wanted the familiar leather execution, that is the reason to pay attention to this one. The Royal does not need a new story to matter, but its history alone cannot tell you what to pay today.
I respect the Royal enough to separate the shoe from the price. The Air Jordan 1 High still has absolute legend status, but my read is that it is not connecting with younger buyers the way it once did. A familiar colorway needs real buying pressure to support a premium. Only sub 20k stock can keep these above retail. I am not forecasting fewer than 20,000 pairs; I am saying supply would have to be unusually tight for me to expect a sustained premium. Retail is the useful reference point here, not a reason to rush toward the highest price you could justify. I would not be surprised to see these reach sales racks after release. If Royal is the pair you want, keep it on your list and let availability do some of the negotiating for you.
If you skipped the suede Royal, this leather return gives you another chance to buy the colorway at retail. Check back as the drop gets closer for updated buyer guidance, and use the links below to cop your pair.
