THE PAIR

The Nike Alphafly 4 “Proto” is built for runners chasing their best over long distances. Sea Glass and Phantom keep the upper quiet, while Laser Crimson brings the forefoot cushioning into focus. The shape looks unusual because the technology is doing a specific job: an updated Atomknit upper contains the foot, ZoomX and ZoomX LT foam work together underfoot, and a carbon fiber Flyplate adds propulsion and stability. Updated Air Zoom units and the Fast Shot outsole complete the race day package. This is a performance shoe with a clear purpose, and the audience buying it is looking at more than the colorway. For collectors drawn to technical running footwear, that purpose is part of the appeal.

THE MARKET

Keeping your feet comfy is expensive. Demand in the high performance running crowd is through the roof, and this is a different buyer pool from the usual retro release. A runner looking for a race day shoe can have a practical reason to want the pair, which adds another layer to the demand. With supply looking low, there is little reason to assume every seller will race toward retail. That still does not make every ask a fair entry. The broader October release is the next point to watch: more pairs reaching buyers could give bidders more room, while demand that absorbs those pairs quickly could keep sellers firm. Test the floor and watch whether sellers meet buyers. Paying up for the technology should come with a considered entry, not an automatic acceptance of the highest ask.

THE RELEASE

October 29 is the broader release date, following the early limited release on September 17. Big Box Retailers is the release route to watch. The retail price is $280, so keep that reference in mind when comparing access with the resale market. The earlier release means some pairs can already be circulating before the wider launch, but an early listing does not tell you how the October drop will play out.
